In 2017, the owners of SweetLegs, Chris and Addie, experienced a heartbreak that no parent should endure. They lost their five-day-old son, Theo, to an undiagnosed and serious heart condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. To honour Theo’s short but impactful life, Chris and Addie have used SweetLegs as a platform to share his story and make a meaningful difference in the lives of other families with sick children.
The decision to share this deeply personal and painful chapter wasn’t easy, but it was made with the hope that Theo’s story could help others. Looking back now, seven years later, it’s clear that Theo’s legacy has grown into something truly extraordinary. Here’s everything that has happened since 2017 and how Theo’s memory continues to inspire us and touch our community today.
Theo’s Print
In 2018, Chris and Addie, along with their family and the SweetLegs team, created a special memorial print called Theo’s Print. This commemorative design features Theo’s unique heart rhythm against the map of the Okanagan night sky on the night he was born. As a tribute to their son, they decided that $5 from every pair of Theo’s Print sold would be placed into Theo’s Legacy—a memorial fund dedicated to supporting families caring for sick children.
When Theo’s Print launched on July 27, 2018, the response was overwhelming. To the surprise and joy of everyone involved, the print sold out in under 14 hours. The SweetLegs community rallied around the cause, and the outpouring of support touched everyone’s hearts. It was a powerful reminder that the mission to help families with sick children resonated deeply, not just with the SweetLegs team but with their entire community.
Since that first launch, Theo’s Print has been restocked several times, with each purchase contributing to Theo’s Legacy. Over the years, the impact of these donations has grown, helping countless families in need. Here's one story that still moves us today.
The Community Impact
SweetLegs has been honoured to be part of many incredible stories over the years. One of the most touching is Angela and her youngest daughter, Kacey, who was battling cancer. Thanks to Theo’s Legacy, SweetLegs was able to contribute $5,000 to help them through their difficult journey. Angela’s heartfelt note left an indelible mark on all of us:
"When the phone call came in and the doctor asked us to come to the office after hours to discuss the result of the tests for our youngest child, I was scared but I thought no way anything crazy could happen to our little girl. As more news came in on the details of this cancer and how much treatment our little girl needed, I could feel our lives falling apart. How would our family get through this? The home we had worked ourselves to the bones for, raised our children in. Would we have to sell it? Our jobs, careers we had fallen in love with, would we have to leave them? Did we have to move? Where would we stay? How would we buy food? Gas? Travel expenses? Pay Bills? How would we pay for the Medical expenses? None of it even mattered, but again how would we get through this?
When I was approached to be part of Theo’s legacy, I was honoured. For our family, Theo’s legacy has given us peace. A deep sense of knowing no matter how bad things are or will be, we are going to be ok. Strength to focus on what really matters, our daughter. Most importantly time, for healing, for fighting this beast, and time to pick up the pieces of our broken life and put them back together again.
Theo’s legacy and the Pafiolis Family has shown us that it’s possible to be whole again. They have given us hope. Thank-you Sweetlegs and all the Sweetlegs fans. Thank-you Chris and Addie. Thank-you Theo."
Angela’s story is just one example of how Theo’s Legacy has touched lives.
Continuing Theo’s Legacy
Since its inception, Theo’s Legacy has grown beyond what anyone could have imagined. Over the years, SweetLegs has made donations totalling $79,250 towards families and organizations that are close to our hearts. These funds have made a difference in the lives of families like Angela’s, helping them navigate some of the most difficult times imaginable.
Thank you to everyone who has made this possible. Your support has turned Theo’s legacy into a force of hope and love for families who need it most.
Theo’s Legacy continues to inspire us every day. We are endlessly moved by the stories we’ve been privileged to be a part of and the impact we’ve been able to make. Our hope is that Theo’s Legacy will continue to grow, helping more families focus on what matters most—their loved ones—during their darkest times.
If you would like to support Theo’s Legacy and help families facing similar struggles, please consider purchasing one of Theo’s Print. Your contribution helps carry forward the legacy of a little boy whose memory has brought light and love to so many.
In loving memory of Theo.
