Hello friends! Addie here, back at the keyboard again. I have to admit, I actually love writing these little notes to you. It feels like sitting down with a coffee and catching up.
Today I wanted to give you a behind the scenes look at what I really do around here.
As a mom of six and a CEO, I wear a lot of hats. Some days that looks like spreadsheets and strategy meetings. Other days it looks like school pickups, laundry, and a late night inbox clear out. But one of the roles I love most at SweetLegs, aside from the occasional TikTok dance break, is helping design our products and seasonal collections from the ground up.
It Starts a Year Before You See It
Most people are surprised when I tell them we begin planning about a year before a product ever launches.

That early stage is one of my favourite parts. It is full of big ideas and open possibilities. We brainstorm themes, colour stories, and categories. We order samples. We try things on. We move around in them. We sit, stretch, bend, and live in them.
Every new product goes through the same filter:
-
Is it easy to wash
-
Is it comfortable
-
Is it stretchy in all the right ways
-
Does it help our customers express their personalities
After some hard lessons, if the answer is not a strong yes across the board, it does not move forward.
From there, the products are tentatively added to our line plan. This is where things get a little less glamorous and a lot more detailed, where the team uses their skills to create the perfect product.
From Concept to Real Fabric
Once we loop in our manufacturing team, we start seeing samples in our actual materials. This is where the tweaking begins.

We adjust fits. We refine waistbands. We test fabric weights. We check drape and recovery. We wear the samples over and over again. I am constantly asking, Would I feel good wearing this all day? Would I recommend this to my sister? My friend? My neighbour?
At the same time, we are building mood boards for the season. We look at colour palettes that feel cohesive but still exciting. We consider what our customers already own and how new pieces will pair back to those favourites.
When it comes to our classic SweetLegs prints, the process is similar but even more curated. We start with a large selection of potential prints and slowly narrow it down. We look for patterns that feel fresh yet timeless. We think about how they fit into a broader theme or season. We choose colours intentionally so they can mix and match with other pieces in the collection.
Every detail is considered. Not just because it is our job, but because we know you are building real outfits for real life.

The Life Between the Launches
Of course, all of this design work happens alongside real life.
My days are full. Between leading a team, reviewing samples, planning launches, and being present for my family, there is not much idle time. I have learned that staying grounded is not about having less on my plate. It is about how I move through it.
For me, that looks like early mornings before the house wakes up. A quiet coffee. A quick check of the day ahead. It looks like keeping a running notebook of ideas that pop into my head between school drop offs and meetings, alarms set on my phone so I remember that I have kids to pick up. It looks like saying no to some things so I can say a better yes to others.
There are moments that are messy and loud. There are moments that are deeply fulfilling. Often, they exist in the same hour.
Building SweetLegs has never just been about clothing. It has always been about creating pieces that fit into your full life, because they are created inside of mine.
Why This Work Matters to Me
Designing a collection is not just about choosing pretty colours or trendy silhouettes. It is about understanding who we serve.
Many of you are juggling careers, families, community commitments, and personal goals. You need pieces that move with you. Pieces that feel good at 7 am and still feel good at 7 pm. Pieces that let you show a little personality without sacrificing comfort.
When I sit down with fabric swatches or print options, I am thinking about that. I am thinking about you.
So the next time you pull on a pair of SweetLegs leggings or try one of our new seasonal pieces, just know there were months of planning, testing, tweaking, and living behind it. There were mood boards on my desk, samples on my kitchen counter, and honest conversations with our team about what would truly serve you best.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. It is a privilege to build something meaningful day by day, season by season, alongside you.
Until next time,
Addie 💛
